News © Sandwich Concert Band 2011 Sandwich Concert Band Logo January 2012 Wanted - New Musical Director Due to the relocation of our present Musical Director, Sandwich Concert Band is looking to appoint a musically accomplished individual with experience of wind band music as our new Musical Director from 18 April 2012. The band is an all-age community group, for players of Grade 5+ standard, and currently has over 40 members who rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 19.15-21.15 at the Phoenix Centre in Sandwich, for approximately 40 weeks of the year (no rehearsals during August). The band performs an average of six concerts a year, encompassing a wide range of musical styles and genres.  We enjoy developing our repertoire and library, and seek a Musical Director with the ability to deliver enjoyable rehearsals to a high musical standard and who is able to inspire confidence in players with varied musical abilities.   The band is run by a volunteer committee, and the Musical Director will work closely with the committee with regard to repertoire, concert planning etc. The post is a voluntary one, but reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses will be considered. Person specification – Musical Director Voluntary Position: out-of-pocket expenses will be considered Skills and abilities •  Accomplished musician •  Good communication and interpersonal skills •  Well organised •  Motivational and inspirational •  Able to conduct enjoyable rehearsals to a high musical standard Experience of: •  Wind band music •  Conducting •  Working with a volunteer committee •  Planning concert programmes •  Working with a range of musical abilities August 2011 Well, the summer has been a busy one for the hard-working Committee who have spent their time dealing with all the  administrative arrangements that are necessary to launch a new music group!  These include drafting constitutions,  sorting out insurances, opening bank accounts, registering postal addresses,  designing logos, setting up websites,  preparing new marketing materials etc etc, but with that all done now, we’re looking forward to turning our attentions back  to more musical matters! Our Events 2011 page gives details of the two remaining concerts for this year; the Inaugural concert on Saturday October  29th at 7pm; and Sunday 11th December at 2.30pm.  Both concerts will be at the St Mary’s Arts Centre in Sandwich and we  hope you can join us.  As a community group, we rely on the local area not only for audiences but also our members.  With this in mind we will be  organising a series of open rehearsals in early 2012 and inviting anyone in the East Kent area to come and try us out!   Open rehearsals will be held for both the Training and Concert Bands.  Of course if you can’t wait that long, you’re  welcome to join us anytime at one of our Wednesday rehearsals – see the Recruitment page for more information.
